1.Sign Up for a Google Analytics (UA) Account

To start, you’ll need to sign up for a Google Analytics account. While there are several options for owning an Analytics account, the most straightforward route to follow is to create a personal Google account with a gmail address. This will enable you to log in and manage the account from anywhere.

Once your account is set up, proceed to the Google Analytics website and click the “Sign Up” button. You’ll then be asked to fill in the two required fields:

  1. Website Name

  2. Website URL

Then, accept the Terms of Service.

  1. Create a New Google Analytics (UA) Property

Once your account is created, you’ll need to create a property to monitor. Google Analytics Properties are used to track different websites and web pages.

To create a new property, go to the admin page of your Google Analytics account. Then, choose “Create Property” from the drop-down menu under the “Property” option.

Once this is complete, you’ll need to fill out the required fields:

  1. Website Name

  2. Website URL

  3. Industry Category

  4. Reporting Time Zone

  5. Data Sharing Settings

After filling out these fields, click “Create” and you’ll be taken to the “Tracking Info” page. This page is where you’ll find the tracking ID that you’ll need to install Google Analytics on your Shopify store.

  1. Install Google Analytics (UA) on your Shopify Store

Once Google Analytics is running on your store, you’ll need to install the tracking code. To do this, log into your Shopify admin and go to the “Online Store” tab. Then, click “Preferences” and copy the tracking ID from the “Google Analytics” field.

Once the tracking code has been added, click “Save” and you’re all set.

  1. Install Google Analytics 4 (GA4)

Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is a new analytics solution that merges the power of machine learning with the traditional analytics reporting to provide insights that weren’t available before. GA4 provides more granular data than the traditional Universal Analytics (UA). To install GA4, log into your Shopify admin and go to the “Online Store” tab. Then, click “Preferences” and enter the “Google Analytics” field.

Then, click on the “Get Started” button, and you’ll be taken to a page that prompts you to create a new GA4 property. Name the property and enter your website URL. Once the property has been created, copy the tracking ID from the Google Analytics (GA4) field and paste it into the “Google Analytics” field in your Shopify store.

Finally, click “Save” and you’re all set. You can now monitor data from both Google Analytics (UA) and Google Analytics 4 (GA4) on your Shopify store.
