On October 6, 2020, President Donald Trump and the first lady, Melania Trump, tested positive for the coronavirus. Trump attended a fundraiser in New Jersey the night before and had recently interacted with several of his senior advisors and staff members. Trump’s physician, Dr. Sean Conley, released a statement saying the President and first lady were both “well at this time” and were “experiencing mild symptoms.”

The news prompted an immediate response from world leaders, with many sending their best wishes and expressing their hope for a swift recovery. Following the news, the White House began contact tracing and put in place strict protocols to protect the health and safety of the entire West Wing staff.

Even as the President was receiving medical care and monitoring his symptoms, he continued his official duties — participating in a leadership roundtable, signing executive orders, and holding daily coronavirus task force meetings, all from the confines of the White House.
